Community Activites

Leeda Northeast, Inc. believes that involvement in the community is critical for a positive quality of life.  We support personal choice for church involvement and basic leisure/recreation opportunities.  We also encourage activities such as visiting family members,  “hanging” out with friends, going to the movies, going to professional baseball games, dances, bowling, miniature golf, attending high school sports and drama events, and horseback riding as appropriate.   We also tap into the skills and interest of employees when matching staff with an individual who is served.  Some of the activities provided in the past include:  fishing, camping, scrapbooking, various crafts, gardening, painting, and sewing.  Again, all activities are geared to the interest of the person/people being served.

Over the years, with funding decreases at the State and Local Level, we have been forced to be creative.  One of the results of this creativity was the development of a non-profit organization called “Trips Ahoy, Foundation, Inc”.  The only goal of Trips Ahoy is to fundraise in order to provide leisure, recreation, and vacation opportunities for the individuals served by Leeda Northeast, Inc.  You can read more information on the Non-Profit Organizations page of this website.

Leeda Northeast, Inc. also hosts at least two agency wide functions each year.  One is always our December dinner and dance, another is an annual picnic.  We also provide transportation to the annual outing to Waldameer Park in Presque Isle, Erie, PA.  Over the past few years we have also held Halloween, Mardis Gras, Cinqo De Mayo and Fall Festival Parties, and assisted in sponsoring a trip to the Carousel Dinner Theater.  Individuals have also attended Indians games, Browns games, Cirque de Soleil performances and gone on vacation to:  the Great Smoky Mountains, Disney World, Virginia Beach and Cape Cod/Boston.  We have a large RV that is available for camping in the Summer.  If you would like more information about our activities and trips feel free to contact Belinda Sweeney at (330)392-6006, or e-mail her at .

Over the past few months we have hosted some monthly functions that included activities geared specifically to men and some to women.  The “Men’s Night Out” included a trip to a local campground where the participants roasted marshmallows, chatted around a campfire, fished and played games.  The “Ladies Night Out” included visits from local estheticians who did manicures, pedicures, and some hair styling.  The ladies also participated in a “high” tea event.

Trips Ahoy Foundation, Inc. started a bowling league that is open to any members of the community.  Feel free to join us at Crest lanes on Tuesday evenings beginning at 6 pm between October and April.
